D&C 101:8

“8 In the day of their peace they esteemed lightly my counsel; but, in the day of their trouble, of necessity they feel after me.”

The hand of Heavenly Father is in everything. Every day He blesses and protects us in ways we are not even aware of. Since he things of us daily, think of Him daily, not just when times are tough.

Packing List

It's crunch time. Where is your sunblock, your bug spray, your pixi sticks and twizzlers? Need to make a trip to the store? Go now!

GIRLS CAMP 2012 PACKING LIST

*MONDAY MORNING: MEET AT CHURCH AT 7AM—PLEASE COME DRESSED AND READY TO GO!!!

FRIDAY AFTERNOON: PICK UP AT 12:30PM AT CHURCH

*ALL ITEMS MUST FIT IN 1 LARGE DUFFLE BAG OR MEDIUM SUIT CASE AND 1 SCHOOL SIZED BACKPACK

*PLEASE LABEL SLEEPING BAG, PILLOW, SUITCASE AND BACKPACK WITH NAME AND WARD.

*REMINDER: WE ONLY GET 1 SHOWER, DON’T PACK TOO MANY SHOWER ITEMS.

-SACK LUNCH FOR MONDAY

-Sleeping bag

-Pillow

-Padding for bed (We recommend small twin air mattress or twin swimming float—remember it needs to fit in our bags, so keep it small!)

-Warm pajamas

-LONG Pants (2), NO shorts or capris!!!

-Shirts (t-shirts for day, and 1 long sleeved for cold/rainy days. ALSO NEED 1 WHITE SHIRT, plain--no words/pictures on it)

-Sweatshirts

-Underwear

-Socks (Must be worn at all times! Also need 1 knee high pair for hiking!)

-Shoes (2-one for hiking, and one sturdy pair for camp. May bring flip flops for SHOWER ONLY)

-Rain Jacket/Rain Poncho

-Small School Backpack for hikes

-Toiletries: Towel, Soap, Shampoo, Conditioner, Toothbrush/paste, Hair brush, Feminine Hygiene Products, Deodorant, non-scented lotion, Small pack of wet wipes. Any medications you need.

-Insect Repellent, Sunscreen lotion and Chap-stick

-Journaling Items: Journal, Pen, CAMP MANUAL and SCRIPTURES!!!!!!!!!!

-Small Flashlight

-Canteen or Water bottle

-Mess kit (Plate, cup, silverware and mesh bag to hold it in)

-Camera/Batteries (optional but encouraged! NO phone cameras; only disposable/digital camera)

-Garbage bag (to keep your dirty clothes in)

-Any snacks you would like (They will be stored in cooler outside of our cabin—so label them!)

NO-NO LIST:

-NO electronic devices of ANY kind. We will take them away if we see them.

-NO face cards.

-NO swim suits (we won’t be swimming!)

-NO immodest clothing—NO tank-tops, sleeveless shirts, or shirts that show your belly.

-NO shorts or capris!!! PANTS ONLY!

Much is Required

D&C 82:3

“3 For of him unto whom much is given much is required; and he who sins against the greater light shall receive the greater condemnation.”

Remember what you know. You have all the knowledge and blessings of the restored gospel in the last days. It's a big responsibility, our Father in Heaven believes in you.

Perform a secret act of service for someone every day until we head for the mountains!

You have light

D&C 84:46

“46 And the Spirit giveth blight to every man that cometh into the world; and the Spirit enlighteneth every man through the world, that hearkeneth to the voice of the Spirit.”

D&C 50:24

“24 That which is of God is light; and he that receiveth light, and continueth in God, receiveth more light; and that light groweth brighter and brighter until the perfect day.”

The Spirit gives light to you too. The more you obey the more you recieve. How can you 'get brighter' today?

Helpful Hints

BRING YOUR COURAGE! Some really exciting challenges await you at camp. Keep an open mind and be ready to try new things that may be outside your comfort zone at first. You have to stretch yourself a little if you want to grow.

3 Nephi 18:24

“24 Therefore, hold up your light that it may shine unto the world. Behold I am the light which ye shall hold up—that which ye have seen me do. Behold ye see that I have prayed unto the Father, and ye all have witnessed.”

Do not get discouraged because you aren't perfect yet. We already have a perfect example. Just keep following it and you will be amazed at how close to Christ you can become.

Study your scriptures for the meaning of the word 'Testimony'. (Click HERE) What is it? What is it NOT?

Let your light shine!

3 Nephi 12:15-16

“15 Behold, do men light a candle and put it under a bushel? Nay, but on a candlestick, and it giveth light to all that are in the house;

16 Therefore let your light so shine before this people, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven.”

You were not made to be hidden away!

Everyone gets homesick sometimes. Is there anything you can bring from home that will make your bunk a little cozier?  (like a family picture?!)

Planting a seed

Alma 32:28-34

“28 Now, we will compare the word unto a seed. Now, if ye give place, that a seed may be planted in your heart, behold, if it be a true seed, or a good seed, if ye do not cast it out by your unbelief, that ye will resist the Spirit of the Lord, behold, it will begin to swell within your breasts; and when you feel these swelling motions, ye will begin to say within yourselves—It must needs be that this is a good seed, or that the word is good, for it beginneth to enlarge my soul; yea, it beginneth to enlighten my understanding, yea, it beginneth to be delicious to me.

29 Now behold, would not this increase your faith? I say unto you, Yea; nevertheless it hath not grown up to a perfect knowledge.

30 But behold, as the seed swelleth, and sprouteth, and beginneth to grow, then you must needs say that the seed is good; for behold it swelleth, and sprouteth, and beginneth to grow. And now, behold, will not this strengthen your faith? Yea, it will strengthen your faith: for ye will say I know that this is a good seed; for behold it sprouteth and beginneth to grow.

31 And now, behold, are ye sure that this is a good seed? I say unto you, Yea; for every seed bringeth forth unto its own alikeness.

32 Therefore, if a seed groweth it is good, but if it groweth not, behold it is not good, therefore it is cast away.

33 And now, behold, because ye have tried the experiment, and planted the seed, and it swelleth and sprouteth, and beginneth to grow, ye must needs know that the seed is good.

34 And now, behold, is your knowledge perfect? Yea, your knowledge is perfect in that thing, and your faith is dormant; and this because you know, for ye know that the word hath swelled your souls, and ye also know that it hath sprouted up, that your understanding doth begin to be enlightened, and your mind doth begin to expand.”

CHOOSE YOUR ATTITUDE! Laman and Lemuel walked back and forth from Jerusalem just as many times as Nephi and Sam, but because they murmured and were miserable about it, they lost the opportunity to receive many blessings. Facing the day with a smile can change everything!
